In May 2020, catastrophic floods swept through the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains after the glaciers melted at an unprecedented rate. River Nyamamba burst its banks, wiping out homes, farmland, and livelihoods.

Today, more than 1,500 people mostly women and children remain displaced in the Muhokya IDP camp.

They face:

  • Food insecurity and daily hunger

  • Limited access to healthcare

  • School dropouts due to extreme poverty

  • Women at risk of exploitation for survival

  • Stalled government resettlement due to land disputes

This is not just a humanitarian crisis. It is a climate change disaster and a call to action for all of us.
